On November 19, we gathered at Estuary Beans & Barley on Johns Island for a Sea Island Paint Party featuring our beloved Honey the Highlander — and what an incredible night it was. The room was full of creativity, laughter, and the warm glow of people simply enjoying themselves.

We welcomed seasoned painters, total beginners, and many who hadn’t picked up a brush in years. Everyone received the same tools, the same instructions, and the same teacher — yet every Highlander turned out beautifully unique, each one reflecting the artist behind it.

As everyone settled in, you could feel the day’s worries begin to fade. Before long, the room grew quiet — that peaceful kind of quiet where everyone is fully present and focused. For a couple of hours, it was all about paint, connection, and the simple joy of creating together. Strangers quickly became a small, supportive creative community.

To make the night even sweeter, we gave away a handmade coffee mug from The Faithful Oak Creative Studio as a door prize! One lucky guest went home with a little piece of our pottery collection — a reminder that creativity comes in many forms and mediums.

This is my hope for every Sea Island Paint Party: that you drop your worries at the door, come as you are, and let yourself create — because in the end, it’s FUN art, not FINE art!

A Little About Estuary Beans & Barley

If you live on Johns Island, you’ve probably heard of Estuary Beans & Barley — it’s become such a staple in our community in just a few short years. They opened in 2020 with a really fun idea: bring great coffee and great beer together under one roof. In the morning, you’ll find folks sipping freshly roasted coffee, and by evening the space transforms into a relaxed brewery hangout with plenty of good energy.

Their space is bright, open, and thoughtfully designed. There’s room for the coffee roasting operation, the brewery tanks, and plenty of cozy indoor and outdoor seating. It has that easy Lowcountry feel… the kind of place where you settle in and instantly feel at home.

What They Offer

  • Craft Coffee: Freshly roasted beans, espresso drinks, cold brew, and beans you can take home.

  • Brewery: A rotating mix of beers — everything from crisp lagers to IPAs to seasonal and specialty releases.

  • Food & Events: Wood-fired pizza, food trucks, and a steady calendar of community happenings like trivia, yoga, and craft nights.

  • Gathering Space: Whether it’s private events, community workshops, or creative nights like our paint parties, they’ve created a space where people can come together.

Why It’s the Perfect Creative Setting

Estuary has this wonderful mix of warmth and creativity. It’s casual and inviting, but also full of life — the kind of place where conversation flows easily and people feel comfortable trying something new. The indoor/outdoor layout makes it ideal for nights like ours, where painting, chatting, sipping, and laughing all blend together.

As if living on an island wasn’t fun enough, places like Estuary make it even better! Thank you to Estuary Beans & Barley and to all the local businesses that support local artists and encourage creativity. Your commitment to community makes nights like this possible.
